Eyebrows!
import different eyebrow shapes (png with transparencies) onto a backdrop, shrink it down and put it on a characters forehead (a character that has eyebrows removed obviously!) and animate the backdrop image properties and voila facial animation
although the character has to be static (in a pose) for obvious reasons!
cheers

So we don't need to bother doing facial animation now? Cool, we can get on with that octopus instead.

It's a handy technique for different facial expressions until there is an update to muvizu which includes a facial animation system
If the muvizu eyebrows had the ability to be animated in a similar manner to the image switching I've shown as well as having a movement animation option for raising and lowering individual brows and also as a pair. Add to that a better control system for the eyelids - fully open/closed, rapid to zero blinking, and pupils that go all the way from one side of the eyeball to the other then the happy/sad/angry etc states would take care of the mouth side of the expression and it would be all there as far as I can see for an animation system for the face
Thoughts?

That pretty much sums it up. It's on my "want" list.

Goodstuff dreeko, this workaround is perfect for a close up front shot.
I think also a brow control slider (up-down) gizmo would give fantastic results. Think Wallace&Grommit!, where Grommit uses the brow only, very good emotion And very funny.
I think a brow slider control gizmo would work like dream for our ardman style Characters. Bring it on Muvizu, you know it makes sense

Here's another test Managed to do a bit of movement to the brows this time and they move independently of each other the effect could be better if i had more time to spend on it today but i think it shows potential.....thoughts?
(1 backdrop per brow)
cheers

That's a nice idea, Dreeko. You'll be pleased to hear that the facial animation system is something on our to-do list. Honestly, I'm looking at the list right now: it's a massive cardboard sheet covered in wee cards arranged next to the year's release dates.
The pub-chat phase of the design work's already started. We've not got to the stage of plans and documents yet and, to be honest, that's not going to happen for a bit, but I thought you'd like to know.
Thanks for stirring the debate. I like it.

Glad you like the idea Barry I've been thinking for a while about what the facial animation system might be like, considering the desire to keep muvizu as user friendly as possible but still be as intuitive as we (the more demanding users) would desire it to be. I'm sure whatever form it takes will move muvizu yet again to another level
I remember the ever expanding wall of to-do post it notes from my visits to muvizu and can I apologise in advance for all the suggestions still to come which may take the peak of the mountain even higher!
Thanks again to all who have the crazy task of trying to convert the suggestions of me and others into some kind of coherent reality
Cheers D

Ok ok time to spill the beans...now if you look very closely at the end of this animation, you might notice some subtle facial animations...
